DTN COMMENTS: Cash cattle country is off to a slow start this morning
following the last two days of light trade. Asking prices are around
$220-plus in the South, and $353-plus in the North. At this point no bids
have been renewed. More business will need to take place especially in
the North either today and/or tomorrow. Beef cutouts are expected to be
higher with light to moderate box movement.
So far this week the bulk of transactions have been in Kansas and Texas
with a range of $218 to $221, mostly $219 to $220, $1 to $2 higher than
last week's weighted averages. Very light scattered sales in Nebraska and
Iowa have been marked at $353 to $360, mostly $353 to $355, $4 to $6
higher than last week's weighted averages, basis Nebraska.
The Export Sales Highlights report for the period of April 25 to May 01
has beef net sales of 7,600 MT for 2025 were down 41 percent from the
previous week and 42 percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases
primarily for Japan (6,600 MT), South Korea (1,900 MT), Hong Kong (1,400
MT), Taiwan (1,000 MT), and Mexico (900 MT), were offset by reductions
for China (5,500 MT). Exports of 15,100 MT were down 4 percent from the
previous week, but up 3 percent from the prior 4-week average. The
destinations were primarily to South Korea (5,200 MT), Japan (4,400 MT),
Mexico (1,400 MT), Taiwan (1,300 MT), and Hong Kong (1,000 MT).
